BUD & BLOSSOM ‘CREATIVES’ NEW ART COURSE

“Flourish: An Artist’s Journey to Creative Freedom.”

Flourish: Unlock Your Creative Potential is a transformative art course designed to help you break free from creative blocks, explore diverse mediums, and develop your unique artistic voice. Through guided exercises and self-discovery, you’ll gain confidence, embrace your creativity, and bring your authentic vision to life.

The student will take root, bud and blossom and fill the world with fruit.

Overview and goal of course:

  • The goal of this course is to nurture and expand your creativity as an artist. It aims to free you from any restrictions that block, stop, or prevent you from becoming the authentic artist you were born to be. Through this journey, you will restore your imaginative vision, embracing your true, confident, and unique creative self.
  • You will explore different mediums and learn to enjoy the entire process of art making, from start to finish. This includes understanding the importance of artistic development and recognizing that even mistakes are an essential part of creating art.
  • This course encourages you to reconnect with your inner artist child, allowing for growth, healing, and creative liberation throughout the learning process.
  • You will uncover your own hidden creative treasures and experience the joy of seeing them visually unfold before your eyes, brought to life by your own artistic expression.
  • Finally, you will build confidence in your artistic abilities, with the goal of sharing your work—whether as heartfelt gifts or by selling your creations on social media and your own website.

1st Phase: Taking Root – The Artist-in-the-Making Will Take Root

In this foundational phase, students begin their creative journey by planting the seed of their artistic growth. As roots begin to grow, this stage is guided by encouragement, motivation, and the establishment of a solid foundation in both technique and mindset.

  • Focus on breaking free from creative blocks such as self-doubt, fear of failure, and perfectionism.
  • Learn the importance of unlearning unhelpful habits, such as over-reliance on erasers or smudging with fingers, and embrace new, effective techniques.
  • Engage in structured exercises from Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards and experimental practices inspired by Laura McKendry to develop observational skills and artistic confidence.
  • Begin daily or weekly Morning Pages, inspired by The Artist’s Way, to build a consistent and liberating creative habit.

2nd Phase: Budding – The Artist-in-the-Making Starts to Bud

At this stage, students begin to see progress and growth, much like a plant sprouting buds before it blooms. Creativity expands as confidence and skills develop.

  • Consistency is key – regular practice leads to noticeable improvement.
  • Explore and experiment with different mediums, surfaces, and artistic methods to find what resonates with you.
  • Research inspirational artists and movements to discover influences that inspire and inform your own work.
  • Make it personal – create a vision board filled with symbols, colours, textures, and imagery that reflect your identity, inspirations, and artistic goals.
  • Begin more independent projects, incorporating newfound skills and personal creativity into unique works.
  • Students are encouraged to schedule a weekly appointment with their creative child. E.g. read a book about an artist, travel to galleries, go to art exhibitions, etc
  • Start connecting with other artists, artist communities on social media platforms.

3rd Phase: Blossoming – The Artist-in-the-Making Begins to Bloom

Now, the artist is no longer just learning but expressing and refining their unique style. Like a flower in bloom, confidence grows, and a distinctive artistic voice emerges.

  • Refine technical skills while embracing a more personal, intuitive approach to creating.
  • Push creative boundaries by exploring storytelling in art, abstraction, or conceptual work.
  • Learn advanced composition techniques and experiment with colour, texture, and layering.
  • Start assembling a portfolio of your best work, documenting progress and defining your artistic identity.
  • Engage in group critiques and discussions to build confidence in presenting and talking about your work.
  • Discovering one’s artistic voice is a journey of experimentation, self-reflection, and confidence-building. By exploring different styles, techniques, and personal inspirations, students develop a unique expression that feels authentic and meaningful. This process is most beneficial in the Budding and Blossoming phases of the course, where students refine their skills, explore personal themes, and start making intentional creative choices.

4th Phase: Filling the World with Fruit – The Artist Shares Their Art with the World

In this final stage, the fully developed artist is ready to share their creativity with others. Just as a tree bears fruit, the artist’s work now reaches an audience, bringing joy, inspiration, and meaning.

  • Build a professional online presence – set up a social media account, website, or online shop to share or sell artwork.
  • Learn about pricing, commissions, and marketing for artists.
  • Develop a personal brand and consider storytelling as part of your artistic journey.
  • Give back to the creative community – consider mentoring, teaching, or participating in art exhibitions.
  • Celebrate your achievements by curating a personal art showcase (either online or in person) to mark the end of this transformative journey.

Conclusion

By the end of this course, students will have undergone a creative transformation, from taking root in foundational skills to fully blossoming as confident, expressive artists. They will not only have the skills and knowledge to create meaningful artwork but also the confidence to share their work with the world in a way that is fulfilling, impactful, and true to their unique artistic voice.
